A frenectomy (tongue-tie procedure) is the removal of the frenulum, or frenum, which is a thin band of tissue that is found under the tongue or under the center of the upper lip. Due to the latest technology available here at Dr. Sims Dentistry this type of procedure is performed with the iLase and EzLase lasers.
In some cases, this tissue might interfere with the development or function of the lips or tongue. In some cases, if the tissue is attached too closely to the tip of the tongue, it can interfere with the person’s speech and hinder proper tooth development. Patients who are suffering from this condition are sometimes said to be “tongue tied,” because their tongues do not have normal range of motion. Tissue connections that restrict the movement of your tongue or cause gum recession can be easily “released” with the iLase and EzLase lasers.
Laser treatments provide patients with greater comfort, less bleeding, faster healing and better clinical results than conventional surgical treatments.
