Ninety million people in the U.S. don’t see a dentist because of fear.
One million other people have conquered that same fear with a safe and effective treatment called oral sedation dentistry. It’s not just a trend. It’s a new level of dental care.
Sedation dentistry has drawn the attention of The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and it has even been featured on Good Morning America.
Andersonville is one of the growing areas to have a trained sedation dentist available locally. Dr. Grant W. Sims and his team have completed a comprehensive and rigorous training program in sedation dentistry through the DOCS Education (DOCS). Dr. Sims is proud to offer the service and says, “We’re honored to have the opportunity to help the people in our community with this beneficial treatment. Patients no longer have to be afraid of the dentist.”
DOCS, which was founded by Drs. Michael D. Silverman and Anthony S. Feck, has successfully trained over 12,000 dental professionals in the United States and Canada.
The process for patients is simple. After a careful review of their medical history, a qualified sedation dentist will choose the appropriate medication(s) and level of sedation to best meet the patient’s needs. Driven to their appointment by a companion, the patient will most likely take a single pill before arriving at the office on the day of their treatment. More medication may be given depending on the type of procedures being performed and the duration of the appointment. When treatment is complete and the patient is ready to go home, their companion drives them back and stays with them until they are fully recovered (about 4-10 hours). Due to the amnesic properties of many of the medications, patients have little-to-no memory of their time in the dental chair by the next day.
Stop Putting Off Dental Treatment! Sedation Dentistry Can Help!
Have you been putting off going to the dentist for years? Are you afraid that you’ll have to see multiple specialists in order to get the treatment you need completed? Maybe life’s just gotten in the way and now your tooth (or teeth) really hurt! Not to worry, sedation dentistry offered at Dr. Sims Dentistry can help you address all of your dental problems!
Advances in dentistry allow many procedures to be done without the need for referrals to specialists. This means your Dr. Sims can provide you with complete treatment plans and see to your care from start to finish. Even root canals, crowns, implants, and periodontal (gum) work can be done.
Sedation dentistry not only creates a relaxing and anxiety-free experience for you, it also allows your dentist to accomplish more dentistry in a single visit—meaning you have to return fewer times to complete your treatment.
Whether you require a single filling or are looking to have your entire smile restored, sedation dentistry can help you achieve optimum dental health in the most comfortable way possible.
If you’ve delayed getting rid of oral pain or infection, now is the time to take advantage of the many benefits of sedation dentistry. Dr. Grant W. Sims, a sedation-trained general dentist, can give you the care and attention you deserve and the smile you’ve always dreamed of.
- You will continue to relax the rest of the day and into the evening and responsible companion should be with you until the following day.
- Sedation will provide you a way of getting your dental work done while totally relaxed and completely comfortable.
- Sedation is achieved with the use of various oral sedatives (i.e. triazolam, midazolam, lorazepam and hydroxyzine) and nitrous oxide or what is commonly called laughing gas.
- Sedation is NOT general anesthesia.
- Sedation allows you to be conscious and responsive.
- You will be very sleepy and relaxed.
- You will be able to verbalize your needs and wants.
- You will be monitored during your entire appointment with blood pressure and pulse oximetry.
- Someone will be with you at all times.
- The sedatives used are amnesiacs – you will have little or no memory of the experience.
- The sedatives used relax your nervous system so you will feel little discomfort and will probably not need any pain medication post-operatively.
