Dr Sims was born and raised in Springfield , IL. He was active in student government, Boy Scouts, Yearbook Staff and High School Wrestling. He decided he wanted to be a dentist in 8th grade while undergoing orthodontic treatment. He had a great relationship with his orthodontist, Dr M. Sternstein. Dr Sternstein was a mentor and friend helping Dr. Sims along his path to becoming a dentist.
He graduated Pleasant Plains High School, just west of of Springfield. He graduated from Springfield College in Illinois, and then graduated from University of Illinois-Champaign with a bachelor’s degree in Biology. He then attended University of Illinois College of Dentistry in Chicago, and Graduated with a Bachelor’s in Dentistry, and a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree in 1989.
Dr. Sims began practicing dentistry in 1989 in the Lincoln Square neighborhood, then in 1991, he purchased an existing practice in the Edgewater/Andersonville neighborhood. In 1999 he moved his practice a short distance south into the heart of the Andersonville neighborhood. He has been practicing in his current office location since 2006.
Since opening his first office, Dr. Sims has made it a comfortable, caring environment for patients. Being a ” big chicken” in the dental chair himself, Dr. Sims understands first hand that for most people, they would most likely rather be somewhere else-anywhere else, than in his dental chair. This ability to put himself in the patients place has earned him the reputation he has in proving a kind, comfortable, and caring environment to have your dentistry done. Be it a simple cleaning, or complete mouth restoration.
Dr Sims has had advanced dental training in implant dentistry, cosmetic, and laser dentistry. He has recently completed training in Oral Sedation dentistry, which will help fearful patients to comfortably relax while having the latest approved treatments performed.
